Assists engineers and engineering department in performing complex and professional engineering work for environmental, water, sewer, street, storm drainage and other public works projects and programs ensuring technical competence and compliance with all current codes and criteria.

  • Frequently reviews private development projects, including subdivisions, building permits, flood plain permits and similar items for compliance with codes/regulations/standards, adequacy of applications for permits and compliance with approved plans.
  • Regularly utilizes AutoCAD and Eagle Point programs for project plan preparation.
  • Regularly determines applicable codes, regulations and requirements for assigned projects.
  • Frequently assures as-built records of projects and documents necessary changes for the operation and maintenance programs.
  • Frequently writes standard specifications, contract documents and prepares standard details for use on City projects under the direction of the Assistant Director of Engineering.
  • Occasionally performs flood plain modeling using HEC Programs and water system modeling using KY pipe
  • programs.
  • Regularly assists in coordinating City construction projects with local utility firms to determine if existing utility
  • lines require relocation.
  • Frequently maintains contact with consulting engineers, construction project engineers, City, County, State and
  • Federal agencies, professional and technical groups and the general public regarding division activities and services.
  • Frequently assists in the evaluation of transportation and traffic impacts of development proposals, permits, rezones, plats, etc.; prepares traffic, utility and other studies and reports.
  • Occasionally makes recommendations on proposed engineering policies and ordinances for City Council review related to traffic control, flood plain, drainage and other engineering issues.
  • Occasionally assists in administering City Council engineering policies in subdivision review, traffic analysis and
  • design of municipal projects.
  • May prepare agenda items for City Council consideration on a variety of engineering related subjects; writes
  • engineering reports for waterline, sewer lines, storm drainage, streets and other municipal facilities. 
  • Frequently responds to public or other inquiries related to engineering procedures on specific projects and other information.
  • Occasionally assists in maintaining the engineering library and infrastructure records.
  • Occasionally performs other assigned duties as directed by the Assistant Director of Engineering.
  • Master’s Degree in civil engineering with E.I.T. or: P.E. and 2 years experience in engineering.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices and methods and ability to apply to a municipal setting.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Eagle Point, KY pipe and HEC computer programs.
  • Ability to demonstrate skill in developing cost estimates on complex projects.
  • Skill in operating the following tools and equipment: personal computer, motor vehicle, phone and mobile radio.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with employees, consultants, other governmental
  • Agency representatives, City officials and the general public.
  • Ability to conduct necessary engineering research and compile comprehensive reports.
  • Possession of a valid Oklahoma drivers license at date of hire or valid drivers license from state of residency or
  • Ability to obtain one within 30 days.                                               
  • Must be physically capable of moving about on construction work sites and under adverse field conditions.
JOB LOCATION:   Public Works / Engineering Division 

 Regularly:     Basis the employee is required to sit at a desk utilizing a computer and other office equipment.  This requires close and accurate hand eye coordination.

Frequently:    Required to talk or hear.

Occasionally: Required to walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms.

Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
