POSITION PURPOSE:  

Performs journey-level work in the maintenance, design, repair, alteration, and remodeling of buildings, offices, houses and other City facilities. Assignments involve numerous trades and skills, such as rough and finished carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting and concrete/masonry.

   
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  
  • Maintains City facilities, equipment and buildings by performing a variety of skilled carpentry, electrical, painting, plastering, welding, plumbing, heating, air conditioning and mechanical repair work. When required, works alone without on-site supervision, and make decisions needed to accomplish task.
  • Operates and maintains a variety of mechanical tools and equipment such as power saws, power sanders, drills, paint sprayers, welders, plumbing snakes, routers, grinders and electric and gas generators.
  • Reads and interprets sketches, diagrams, drawings and blueprints and assists in coordinating facility maintenance services activities with other City department, divisions and with outside agencies.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
   
   
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  
  • Graduation from High School or GED equivalent and two years experience in ground maintenance work or any combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of the principles of operating and servicing trucks and related automotive equipment.
  • Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations involved in equipment operation.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards of the trade and of the appropriate precautionary measures, including extensive knowledge of the “Chemical Information List”.
  • Knowledge of tractors, light and heavy-duty trucks and specialized equipment.
  • Knowledge of mechanical drive shafts and hydraulic lines for power control systems.
  • Ability to work in all types of weather.
  • Ability to work independently.
