The primary functions of the Lawton Animal Welfare Division include: ensuring the public’s health and safety by providing 24 hour-a-day animal welfare services, controlling of wildlife and strays, and enforcing City Ordinance and/or State Statutes pertaining to animals. Information and explanations of these ordinances and statutes is disseminated through an average of 100 telephone inquiries daily.


Our four field officers, working various shifts, respond to all complaints Monday thru Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. During the remaining weekday and weekend hours, complaint responses are limited to the following emergency types: injured animals, domestic animal bites, loose livestock on roadways and actual attacks by animals on humans and other animals.


Additionally, this division provides and maintains a facility where unwanted animals and strays can be brought to receive general care, nutritional needs sanitary housing and when necessary, approved, humane methods of euthanasia.


The community is also provided various programs and services such as an animal adoption and redemption program and public education programs promoting the prevention of animal cruelty, humane treatment of animals, and responsible pet ownership.
